Become a member of Friends of Same
There are two categories of membership of the Friends of Same:

Full Membership is open to persons who reside, work,
volunteer or own property within the City of Boroondara. Membership is
available to individuals, not organisations.
Associate Membership is open to all other people and
organisations that endorse the purposes of the Friends of Same.
Please refer to the constitution for more details.
Individuals who are now part of the Friends of Same network either through direct participation and regular attendance at meetings, or via the mailing list and email news list, are invited to indicate whether they wish to be listed as full members with voting rights, or as associate members.
Please complete the membership form (Word document format). It would be appreciated if you could send this to Friends of Same, c/-Kate Gillespie-Jones 4A Rubens Grove, Canterbury 3126 (or return by email sgillesp@bigpond.net.au) by Thursday 18 October 2007.
This will ensure you have acknowledged voting rights at the time of incorporation and for the AGM in December. It will be assumed unless otherwise nominated that all others including organisations will be regarded as associate members.
Donations
How to donate to the Friends of Same
Donate to the Friends of Same to support the scholarship program, Timorese textiles and the literacy project, Alpha-Same. Donations through Australian Volunteers International are tax deductible.
The Friends of Same is able to accept donations for the projects we support in the Same Sub-District, via
- Cheques paid directly to the City of Boroondara for the Friends of Same (cheques should be made to City of Boroondara—Friends of Same). This does not have tax deductible status, and needs to be made through Annette Sweet in Community Planning. Contact 9278 4639 or annette.sweet@boroondara.vic.gov.au, City of Boroondara, Private Bag 1 Camberwell, 3124.
- Through Australian Volunteers International: cheques need to be made out to AVI Donations Account: Friends of Same. Donations over $2 are tax deductible, and a receipt will be provided. AVI needs to be advised that a donation is being made, hence all donations should be made through the council. Please contact Annette Sweet as above. Cheques are preferred, although credit card donations can be made through AVI. Direct electronic transfers are also possible (please contact Annette).
In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed by AVI and the City of Boroondara, funds from the AVI Friends of Same account can be transferred off shore to Timor-Leste, for project specific purposes, and also used to pay on invoice here in Australia for items purchased for projects in Timor-Leste.

Scholarship gift vouchers
Give a gift that counts. Support the Friends of Same scholarship program by buying a voucher as a thank-you gift, birthday gift, Christmas gift or just to help build a country's future! Your voucher will pay for:
Vocational secondary college
| $5 | pocket money for one month |

| $50 | a mattress, towel, sheets and cleaning equipment for starting to board |

| $10 | power, water & transportation (1 year) |

The City of Boroondara supports the sub-district of Same (pronounced sah-may) through the Friendship Relationship Program. It develops links, coordinates projects and supports the people of same rebuild their communities.

Rotary Donations in Kind
Donations for freight costs to Timor Leste
Rotary District 9800, Donations in Kind operates the only regular shipping service to Timor Leste for organizations supporting TL, such as Friends of Same. For small quantities, DIK have always shipped free of charge.
Since Jan 2001, DIK has shipped 203 containers of requested goods valued at over A$9.7 Million.
The freight costs of these 203 containers is over A$712,000. Most of these costs have been borne by Rotary Clubs.
Tax deductible donations will greatly assist this service.

Assist in fund raising projects - sending money gives greater flexibility
and effectiveness to the recipients, allowing for local employment, for example.
Develop links between your group or organisation and the community of Same
Come to our functions, meet East Timorese people and find out about their
country.
Invite speakers from Friends of Same to your organisation.
Buy East Timor coffee, and help 17,000 East Timorese farmers and their
families, provide a stronger base for the economy of East Timor, and funds
for aid from Australia.
Develop friendship relationships between schools.
